P2563
Turbocharger Boost Control Position Sensor Range / Performance
The feedback that tells the ECU where the boost-control actuator actually is does not agree with where it was told to go. On most engines that carry this code it is a variable-geometry actuator.
Check first — in this order
The order is the product. A list of "possible causes" is what every parts site publishes, and it is why people replace parts blindly.
- Read commanded against reported vane / actuator position. A large standing gap is the fault; the shape of it narrows the cause. EXPERT
- Variable-geometry (diesel) On a variable-geometry diesel, check the vane mechanism and linkage for soot binding — a mechanism that cannot reach the commanded position reports a range/performance fault from a perfectly healthy sensor. EXPERT
- Check supply, ground and signal wiring to the electronic actuator before condemning it. EXPERT
- Only then the position sensor or the actuator unit itself. EXPERT
What this code does not license you to replace
- That the sensor has failed. A mechanism that will not move produces the same code from a healthy sensor.
- That a wastegated petrol engine is affected — this is an actuator-position fault, and its usual home is a variable-geometry turbo.
