P2263
Turbocharger / Supercharger Boost System Performance
The boost system is not performing the way the ECU expects. This one is deliberately broad: depending on the manufacturer it can be logged for too little boost OR too much, so the direction has to be established before anything else.
What it looks like in the data
A fault code tells you a threshold was crossed. The shape of the requested-vs-actual boost is what narrows the cause — a sharp spike then a cut is a different fault from a slow shortfall.
Example shape: actual builds but plateaus around 0.9 bar and never reaches the 1.40 bar request — the gap is the fault.
Check first — in this order
The order is the product. A list of "possible causes" is what every parts site publishes, and it is why people replace parts blindly.
- Establish the direction first. Log requested against actual boost through a full-load pull and find out whether the system is delivering too little or too much — this code does not tell you which, and the two paths diverge immediately. EXPERT
- Read the manufacturer’s own description for this engine. P2263 is a system-performance code and OEM strategies differ in what they log it for; a generic reading is not enough to act on. EXPERT
- Once the direction is established, follow the underboost or the overboost path rather than treating this code as a synonym for either. EXPERT
- Variable-geometry (diesel) On a variable-geometry diesel, include the vane mechanism and its actuator in either direction — soot binding can produce a shortfall or an excess depending on where the vanes stick. EXPERT
What this code does not license you to replace
- That this means underboost. It is not a synonym for P0299 and may be logged for overboost on some manufacturers.
- That a system-level code means a system-level failure. It usually resolves to one component — but which one depends on the direction.
