P0106

MAP / Barometric Pressure Circuit Range / Performance

The manifold pressure reading is not plausible for the conditions the ECU can otherwise measure.

Severity EXPERT Low — worth checking, not urgent
Driveability EXPERT Usually safe to drive while you diagnose
Tuning EXPERT Diagnose first — do not tune onto this

Check first — in this order

The order is the product. A list of "possible causes" is what every parts site publishes, and it is why people replace parts blindly.

  1. Compare MAP at key-on-engine-off against barometric pressure — they should agree closely before you suspect anything downstream. EXPERT
  2. Identify which sensor the code is actually about. Most modern turbo engines carry both a manifold pressure sensor and a charge-air pressure sensor upstream of the throttle, and they read different things — a plausibility fault on one is not evidence against the other. EXPERT
  3. Check the sensor port and any reference hose for oil, soot, water, or a hose left off after other work. EXPERT
  4. Watch the signal respond under load rather than only at idle. A sensor that reads plausibly at rest and lags or clips under boost fails differently, and only a pull will show it. EXPERT
  5. Cross-check against the airflow signal and against boost. Three sources disagreeing narrows this much faster than staring at one. EXPERT

What this code does not license you to replace

  • That the sensor has failed. Range/performance means the signal is not plausible for the conditions — the sensor is often reading a real situation nobody has found yet.
  • That a boost problem exists at all. A plausibility fault can log with entirely normal boost delivery.

No workshop sign-off yet. The diagnostic order on this page has had a technical review of the knowledge model, performed by a model — not a manufacturer certification and not a mechanical inspection of any vehicle. No tuner has yet put their name to this ordering. Treat it as a reasoned starting point, confirm with measurement, and get a professional to sign off before you condemn a part.
